The Manchester, UK based alternative-indie-pop rock outfit, Heath have followed up a successful debut single Back Up Now, (a lovely ballad about not knowing what you’ve got ’til it’s gone), with the dreamy and celestial Old Town.
Comprised of saturating waves of acoustic and electric guitars, synth, and layers of vocals that seem to flutter about, Old Town is a beautifully tragic number. With a full and rich sound that seems to simultaneously belong both in the 90’s—and in the here and now—the track reminisces on the good ol’ days of youth and innocence, the simpler times before adulthood and the corrupting influences of ambition, distance, and responsibility…
“Thoughts of fields, of crystal skies –
of the breeze on the water the night we learned to fly.
Seas apart, another time…
when the voices and whispers were kind, and we were fine.
The old town has closed down,
the colours of home now, have faded to grey,
the ghosts in the windows smile, and shy away.
Dancing with Thin lizzy, in the dark we’re young and pretty.
Toe to toe, dancing like we mean it –
the nights were long and life was easy.
Hold on – Through it all, stand tall.
I know I might be dreaming,
But I swear that we were dancing just yesterday.”
Old Town, along with it’s predecessor, Back Up Now, represent a truly passionate, focused, and crafted effort by what appears to be an incredibly talented group. We are very much looking forward to their forthcoming debut EP, Universe.
If Whitley (a.k.a., Lawrence Greenwood) and Coldplay got together to create a lighter/acoustic rendition of legendary UK rockers, Def Leppard…boom, Heath.
