Multi-award-winning musician, composer, and songwriter Alex Otey’s fourth studio album, Abbey Road Impressions, hit music streaming sites on August 1st 2026. And we’re still reeling from the impact these seven songs have left, and the mythology woven throughout its concept.
We’ll let Alex Otey reveal the intriguing idea behind his new record in his own words…
“Abbey Road Impressions is a deeply personal concept album born from a pilgrimage to the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London. Channeling the history, magic, and creative spirit of the world’s most famous recording landmark, the album takes listeners on an evocative journey through the human experience—mapping the choices, challenges, and quiet revelations that define our lives… It serves as a grounded, soulful reminder of the everyday choices that build our shared reality.”
Title track and album opener “Abbey Road” resurrects 60s pop-rock, plucking the era’s greatest themes with the hindsight of our modern age, and tangling them together into one get-up-and-dance groove. It may be unintentional, but Alex pays a little extra homage to Brit culture, with hints of The Office UK theme tune emerging in slight moments that make this track all the more memorable and instantly lovable.
Nods to reggae and ska shine through in the unlikeliest of places. Song structures follow The Beatles’ iconic pop rock standard, hooking you in without that confusing, art-pop experimentation that rattled the band’s later sound. That’s not to say Alex doesn’t dabble in the quirky side of 60s/70s pop, however. Just check out the funkalicious, psychedelic-infused third track, “Yeah, We’re Going.” It’s as if Stevie Wonder joined a Brit rock band.
Ballads break through the high-energy album, “Anna Lee” side-stepping into the realm of The Zombies, Lou Reed, and the like. “She Would Stay” is a stand-out addition; smoky, darkly atmospheric, and a little spooky, Alex’s hypnotic melodies and hard rock guitar solos carve bright streaks through the moody gloom, crafting a track that’s absolutely unmissable. The Office UK fans might discover hints of their favourite soundtrack backlighting the piano riffs in this song too.
“Love Coming Through” channels Jimi Hendrix like a pro, before album-closer “This Very Day” swings into a blues rock groove The Beatles would have been proud of. Put together, Abbey Road Impressions is a perfect tribute to a bygone and beloved era, and a location that changed the direction of pop music entirely.
Our final verdict? Highly Recommended.
