Bongo Boy Rock n’ Roll TV Episode 05 kicks off with “Denial” from Poland’s Halina Garl. It’s a measured performance, a little rock/country western, and occurring throughout black and white vistas of Nevada – both familiar cityscapes and yawning canyons. The music conveys a little anger, a little bitterness; it’s a shifting of emotional landscapes. But after denial, after disruption, comes acceptance.
Hailing from the Czech Republic, it’s Simonne Draper with “Eclipse.” And accompanying her classical guitar and dense string rushes, slow-moving images of forested cosmic pathways, the clear night sky, galloping horses, faraway andromedas, and the occasional alien vista. The images, like her music, are soothing, expansive, galloping ever forward, and always promising enlightenment upon arrival.
Next up, it’s Blow_Flyy with “Blood N Honey.” Hailing from Halifax/Dartmouth Nova Scotia and Toronto, Canada, this latest track from Blow_Flyy features ultra-fast flow over ominous synths. Rapping furiously between stone lions or aside neon signage, “Blood N Honey” presents a dire warning in 80-syllables-per-second.
Eugenie Jones slows the pace with “I Could Get Lost in Your Eyes.” With sultry sax and hypnotizing jazz vocals, the accompanying lyric video features captivating images driving home the emotive lyrics.
Clark Ford (with, of course, the folks from Underground Treehouse) presents “Unconditionally.” This acoustic ballad with strong, expressive female vocals plays amidst a lyric video featuring images of couples lost in a very unconditional love. It’s a perfect symbiosis of music and relevant, romantic images.
Italy’s Massimiliano Paternò shares “I Want to Fly into the Sky.” It’s a slow acoustic number played at a dimly lit bar/pool hall. It’s a low, Bob Dylan-ish voice, low lights, lamented friendships, and maybe a wish for one more game of pool.
From Setubal, Portugal, it’s Steve Andrews with “Mother Nature Rap.” With a blue beard, psychedelic button-down shirt, and a jacket from perhaps the Revolutionary War, Steve Andrews raps about environmental strife over an electronic groove and wiry synth ear worms. It’s an effective way to force our sleepers to cut short their slumber.
But is it good?
This is another amazing visual (and aural) collection of some of the finest artists domestic and foreign. Because music, because talent, simply is, and nationality an afterthought.
