Watching (and listening)…

First up, it’s Simona from Los Angeles, CA, with “Freaks.” We see Simona and friends dancing to an electronic beat and Simona’s reserved vocals. Featuring a makeup facade similar to the Crow (RIP, Brandon Lee), “Freaks” is immediately danceable while celebrating the strengths of the socially dismissable.

Next up, it’s June Bisantz & Alex Nakhimovsky with their latest track, “Love’s Tango.” This subtle swinging ballroom jaunt features classic animation and our primary players projected through a hand-drawn television and dangling picture frame. This is an interesting aesthetic that perfectly matches the song’s memory-inducing melody.

From Paris, France, it’s Daffie Doc (I see what you did there!) with “Je re’ve de toi.” The story: someone receives a text to check out the latest Daffie Doc music video. Spoiler: they totally do, and the video begins. With a gentle, sultry female voice and chilled percussion and ambience, the singer meanders in a dream of Paris before the initial character, now appearing inside the video, begins to rap. This is a relaxing, quiet track mixing styles effortlessly and effectively.

From Oceanside, CA, it’s The Fabulous Rudies with their latest video, “Forget It.” This energetic ska diddy features a girl unnaturally obsessed with a certain doctor. With images featuring comedic stalking and a final battle of the brides, “Forget It” is both a warning against unwanted feelings, and permission to set aside any nagging, perhaps logical self-doubt.

And now, from Hurley, New York, it’s Professor Louie & The Crowmatix with “Work It Out.” Shot tastefully – and monochromatically – on a stage, Professor Louie is the focus with two keyboards and a wise, expressive voice. This tumbling, rootsy rock song features capable playing by The Crowmatix, and an ode to organic, honest, working man music.

All the way from Lagos, Nigeria, it’s Tucee with “Sweet Mother.” Featuring electronic percussion, electronic and expressive nature effects, and Tucee’s robotic voice, we’re granted images from life in Nigeria – it’s a simple life filled with love and family. A life Tucee can’t help but celebrate through music.

And for our final artist/video, it’s Arthur Jae with “My Valentine.” Evoking the R&B of acts like Boyz II Men, and with a smooth, higher register voice, Arthur Jae switches between sitting comfortably and behind a piano; he sings about the obviously very happy couple who initially asked for a simple piano tune, but received an entire song courtesy of the very supportive Mr. Jae.

But is it good?

It’s new, but played with experience. It’s fresh, but somehow familiar. Bongo Boy Rock n’ Roll TV Season 13, Episode 06 is another banger; it’s another compilation of the very best that, somehow, through the deluge of more “popular” music, you may have missed. And if that’s the case, I IMPLORE you to watch several more episodes of Bongo Boy Rock n’ Roll TV and discover more artists who absolutely deserve your attention.
