Bongo Boy Records is back at it again with the latest episode of their Rock N’ Roll TV Show hitting screens early this June. Like a brand new MTV, and in heavy rotation on 72+ TV terrestrial TV channels, each episode collects a hit-list of rising stars and independent artists you simply can’t miss out on, blasting catchy new tracks, music vids and live performances through 30 minutes of infectious, rock-infused mayhem.
Episode 6 (Season 14) kicks off with the new single by Scott McDonald — “Wave” — a track which sparked a wildfire of feral love from the lads down at Bongo Boy, who just had to make this track the star of the show. Fuelled by nostalgically ‘90s pop-punk/garage rock vibes, this upbeat song catches the fresh feeling of summer evenings spent speeding towards the beach to glimpse the majestic fade of sunlight into the nighttime’s neon luminescence.
Monique Grimme lands a slot with her jango pop springtime single, “Neon Pretense” featuring Sapphire Star Studios. Another novel track set in bright, retro grooves, this song tangles loose elements of folk in its soundscape, treading melodies of the 60s and 70s whilst uplifting those musky old-school auras with addictively catchy lyrics.
Annemarie Picerno’s “What Will You Say” follows next; striking character flooding from the black and white music video as Annemarie serves her verses while smoking cigrarettes in a bathtub (goals). This song hides a dark undercurrent beneath its lyrics, considering the impact we each leave on our planet once the thread of life has been severed, and whether others will remember us for good or for worse. We promise it’s a feel-good track. Just conceptually deep enough to make you spiral in thought, like all the best art should.
Shar’s “RISE (Remix)” is an upbeat reggae-inspired jam seeking to counteract the grim realities of house-bound depression, its throbbing beats spurring us music nerds to jump into the rhythm of life, electrifying and jump-starting the most broken and dreary hearts like a Frankenstein of good vibes.
“Cool Cool Baby” by Gar Francis lays addictive 80s rock grooves beneath a powerhouse voice; each element flocked with vivid personality, from the retro synths to Gar’s colourful vocal tones. Just wait until that guitar solo descends, spewing laserbeam riffs like an Earth-destroying UFO.
Shar takes a second step into the spotlight with “When The World Is On Your Shoulder,” a country rock-inspired track cut with bluesy guitar solos, its fresh and comforting ambience like an unearthed Creedence Clearwater Revival hit. Shar sums up her song’s message with the phrase, “Just keep going”; her lyrics keeping the fires of self-trust and self-belief blazing as we bump our way through life’s manifold craters. Also, there’s kittens in the music video. It’s an instant win from us.
Anayamusic steals the final slot with the mystic single “Sanctuary” – a cinematic piece capturing universal bliss through the sweeping tones of an orchestra; whimsical, enchanting and hypnotically otherworldly. This synthy composition honours the planet Jupiter, a cosmic symbol of serenity; contemplating how we might skim through interstellar portals to commune with the pure, spiritual energy of higher dimensions.
