If you thought gospel music was a purely Christian phenomenon, it’s time to rethink your presumptions, as 26-year-old singer-songwriter Cara Paige overhauls the genre in her brand new album Light. Hope. Faith, putting a rare, Jewish spin on the concept of contemporary faith music.
A multi-music award winner and self-taught songwriter since the age of fourteen, Cara Paige is gearing up to drop her second album on August 14th, and we’ve been lucky enough to be given a sneak preview of her songs. Curious as to what it’s all about? Let’s dive in…
Describing her new album as “ten songs of resilience, hope and faith,” elements of pop, country, rock and roots gospel coalesce to craft sun-charged atmospheres that instantly uplift, inspire and comfort. Cara’s lyrics are served with absolute clarity, drawing listeners into her heart-warming take on keeping faith alive in an era where religions are gradually dipping in popularity throughout the Western world – each track bravely original, boldly contemporary, and a dream to wander through.
“Ain’t That What Love Does” is a stand-out country-pop piece translating the free-spirited vibes of rom-com soundtracks into an upbeat song of joy and belief. “Bad Days With You” is a family-friendly anthem with a Taylor Swift-meets-Camp Rock twist as Cara explores finding eternal happiness and peace on Earth through her faith.
Light. Hope. Faith. is already producing hits – “We All Bleed Crimson Red” has topped the US iTunes Singer/Songwriter charts, while Cara’s latest single, “Snake Hunting,” recently stole the #1 spot on the iTunes Americana chart.
All this might leave listeners wondering about Cara’s own journey to faith. Her biography reveals a heart-wrenching story which only amps up the power of her album…
Cara’s family survived the Holocaust and left Poland behind; her mother, a South African immigrant, later crossed an ocean and planted roots in Atlanta. Cara grew up there carrying those ancestral tales, soon to be woven into song, including “everything her family endured and overcame, and the God she believes guided them to safety and a new life. Music became her way through it all — ‘a land line for my emotions’ — a way to understand her own story and to tell her ancestors’, too,” according to Cara’s official website.
You don’t need to be Jewish, or a believer of any kind, to be totally enraptured by Cara Paige’s sound. With soul-cleansing positivity and catchy sing-along choruses, Light. Hope. Faith. is an album set to brighten any grey day and get you contemplating what’s truly important to your wellbeing. Our final verdict? Highly recommended.
