Hailing from California but now residing in Iowa, songwriter Clark Ford has been writing music for over 20 years. He’s released multiple albums and singles across many genres, including country, pop, and retro rock. Ford has most recently released a bonafide country single on Bongo Boy Records, titled In Your Eyes, and it has all of the makings of a modern country hit.
From the first twangy guitar bend and the lead singer’s first notes, it’s no secret that In Your Eyes is rooted in Americana sounds, though we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention a bit of a soft rock undercurrent driving the track along as well. But as the fiddle breaks in and the story develops, it’s clear we have a front-row seat for a beautiful country love story, regaling us with a story as old as time from a fresh songwriter’s perspective. The lyrics are written in true country style – straightforward and simple – but that doesn’t take away from the romance in the slightest:
“In your eyes, I saw beauty, unconditional love
In your eyes I saw heaven, shining down from above
Your eyes saw right through me but you didn’t turn away
Instead, you smiled at me and asked me to stay”
Ford has chosen the perfect lead vocalist for this track – the strong southern tones of Michael Lusk are the perfect complement to this heartfelt tune. His twang and sincerity bring even more authenticity to the story, and the subtle harmonies in the chorus elevate the track even further.
Light and easy-listening, but equally as touching and passionate. This is a heartwarming tune with the comforting familiarity of an old favorite sweater, but Clark Ford‘s unique songwriting point of view shines through in this track. For modern country fans (especially those that might be in the market for a wedding song), In Your Eyes will pull on your heartstrings and resonate with your soul.
