Consisting of Glenn Patrick (vocals, guitar), James Leigh (keys, bass, vocals), Vince Leigh (drums, vocals), and Gerry Leigh (guitars, vocals), Melbourne, Australia’s own, Collegians, formed in 2014. Since that time, the electro-pop/rock outfit has been hard at work sculpting their sound and getting it on tape for their forthcoming, debut album.
In support and anticipation of that album, the influences of Muse, Garbage, and Depeche Mode ring true in their first official single, the explosive, Vaccine.
A tale of shameless and desperate love, this dark and intriguing piece of electro/alt-rock, satisfies the sonic palate with a layered fusion of electronic-inspired synth riffs, driving percussion (which seems to alternate in and out of lo-fi), and Patrick’s grimy and brutally honest vocals…
“Now, you’re my vaccine, when I’m sick of me
You’re waking me from my nightmare
Now, you’re under my skin, when my head begins
You’re catching me as I descend
Are you just another weakness in me…?”
With sterling production, Collegians first official effort, Vaccine, is both impressive and entertaining, and sets an exciting precedent for their future music. We’ll be anticipating that album.
Whose lovechild…?
Filter meets Imagine Dragons…
