Floridian songwriter and Americana artist Doug Spears is prepping to wow fans with an unexpected comeback album, Blacktop Road, next month, marking his first album of fresh material in over fifteen years. Set for release on August 1st, 2026, Blacktop Road features fourteen original tunes and one spellbinding cover of “The Old Cracker Cowman” by Frank Thomas.

Backing Doug – credited on the album as Doug Spears & the Florida Cracker Collective, a group of native-Floridian friends – are Ron Litschauer on guitar, mandolin, and backing vocals; Bari Litschauer on banjo and tenor guitar; Lon Williamson on bass, baritone guitar, mandolin, harmonica, and backing vocals; and Lis Williamson on harmony vocals, rhythm guitar, tenor guitar, banjo, penny whistle, mandolin, and more.
This is the long-awaited fourth studio album of Doug Spears’ career, following his 2005 debut, “Truths & Lies,” 2007’s “Break Some Stones,” and 2010’s “Welcome Home.” And it was totally worth the wait – Blacktop Road is a seamless, spotless addition to Doug’s discography that’s bound to enchant Americana listeners from start to finish.
