Sometimes wild adventures leave us miserably homesick for places miles away from our actual homes. And that’s exactly what the New York-based band, Frank Migliorelli and The Dirt Nappers, explore on their brand new single, Michigan – the lead track from their upcoming fifth studio album, “Abnormal Conditions,” which fans can expect in mid-July 2026.
Featuring drummer Tom Segusa, guitarist Thad Debrock, and keyboardist Dan Weiss, with guest appearances from Soozie Tyrell and Lisa Lowell, (currently touring with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band) Michigan melts 20th-century rock, country, folk, and singer-songwriter themes into one instantly addictive track, laced with slight hints of the 60s psychedelia craze, and lastly crowned by a classic all-American sound.
Flitting between soft rock ballad tones, crisp and quirky guitar effects, harmonica harmonies, and an epic prog rock organ solo, Michigan is a true love letter to the state, flocked with both sentimentality and bright, upbeat energy. It’s the sort of track that begs to be blasted from your car stereo as you speed down the interstate in pure escapism, never able to truly leave those memories behind.
And it comes with an interesting back story, as frontman and songwriter Frank Migliorelli reveals:
“It actually started out as a quiet ballad. I was trying to reflect a bit on a place where I spent five years of my life and have a number of close friends and family. But when we started kicking it around in rehearsals, bassist Tony Tino (Music City) started pushing it in the direction of a Neil Young rocker. Once we started going there, it took on a powerful life of its own.”
The band absolutely conquered this vibe, laying a positive spin on homesickness and weaving Neil Young’s iconic soundscapes with authentic twists of their own.
