With a previous review for their song The Worrier, as well as an appearance in our Instant Music List #4 for their album by the same name, we’ve come to know and appreciate the musical stylings of the Daytona Beach-native progressive rock, pop and funk band known as, Greye.
Hannah Summer (vocals, guitar), Jett Wolfe (guitar, vocals), Josh Reid (bass, vocals), Ray Grimard (drums, percussion) and Ken-E Williams (keyboards, vocals) are back with, Windows, the lead single and album title track off of their new project.
While listening to Windows, it becomes immediately apparent that the Greye collective has not been living in a bubble—they’ve grown. Musically, the melody has that quintessential, smooth and groovy Greye-esque sound and feel—complete with 2 funked-up guitar solos at 3:42 and 4:58. At the same time, it is lyrically edgy and aggressive. It seems the young core of this group have been paying attention to the world around them, and they’ve got something to say about it. Moral of the story: When your window opens, live your life, take your shot. No matter what they tell you, you’ve got nothing to lose…
“Someone put it all on this one
Standing by the office measuring their time
Someone’s gonna push you out there
Bleeding out your legacy between the parking lines
Go ahead my man, and shoot that arrow
Who knows if it’s gonna be there tomorrow…”
Whose lovechild…?
We got this right the first time: Lisa Loeb fronts for Dave Matthews Band…
