Rich Jacques (a.k.a., JACQ) is a Grammy-winning producer who, not so long ago, decided to leave popularized, large scale production behind. Opting rather—in his recent solo venture—for the emotively minimalist, the spaces between the notes, the quality over quantity.
Previous work includes the painfully beautiful pair of singles, Oblivion and Leave A Light, both of which are a testament to the magic that can occur when patient, intentional writing meets in the middle with subtle and skilled musicianship.
His latest single, Starlight (a cover of Muse’s 2006 original), removes the pounding drums, the fuzzed-up electric guitar and the laser-style synth of the original.
In their wake dwells a delicately stripped-down, JACQ-style acoustic/piano iteration, which both retains the original’s authenticity, while simultaneously delivering new meaning, new pain, and new inspiration; and all through a simple shift in sonic emphasis.
Be sure to check out his other tracks. This is an exciting artist.
