Sometimes we’re lucky enough to come across music that feels like putting on an old, favorite sweater – warm and worn in all the right places. Jeremy Parsons’ new single is exactly this. Good Ole Days is a total treat for the folk-loving ears. This track is everything we love about modern Americana music and then some.
“I like the thought that our fondest memories are yet to be made.”
Parsons grew up in the rich Texas music scene, teaching himself to play guitar and regularly performing by the time he was in high school. He has since traveled both the U.S. and Europe, has been awarded a Texas Music Award, and has seen his songs placed in multiple films and chart on the Top 40 Roots Music Report and the Hits You Love pop charts.
It’s no surprise that Parsons’ latest release seems to be a culmination of all his past successes. Good Ole Days is pure, simple guitar work, honest and memorable melodies, and a heartfelt story, in fact inspired by the real stories of people from Parsons’ father’s hometown. Parsons’ soulful voice adds just a touch of grittiness to what is an otherwise melodious and smooth track, lending an authenticity that suits both the song and story in a way that only comes from a songwriter whose heart is in the lyrics. We’re especially fond of the way the harmonies open up in the first chorus – the group vocal effect feels very fitting for a message so relatable.
And that message itself is something we could all use a little bit of right now, as we collectively live through a time in history that is unprecedentedly turbulent. The hook gives us this wonderful piece of optimism and hopefulness:
“I’m looking forward to looking back on things,
I haven’t even gotten to my good old days.”
Truly good modern Americana that is neither soulless nor driven by imitation is not as commonplace as the current scene might have you believe, but we believe we’ve found the real deal in Jeremy Parsons. Good Ole Days is an instant contender for our 2020 Top Ten list, and if you’re even the slightest bit fond of excellent acoustic music and great stories, this track is an absolute must-listen.
