Emerging Maryland pop star Jessie Altman treated fans to a brand new EP on March 6th – Sleepwalking – the follow-up to her 2024 album “Aftermath” and EP “Aftermath II”. Through its short and snappy runtime, four kaleidoscopic tracks gradually awaken from a sense of hazy serenity to a dynamite end, parting the initial clouds of sleepy brain fog to reveal euphoric closing tracks that could hold a nation captive on the charts.

Title track “Sleepwalking” sees heart-throb pulses and mind-warping, hallucinatory effects laid beneath Jessie’s sparkling clean vocals; a song with an introspective edge, resting in the haze halfway between a soft ballad and a hit ablaze with hints of both ‘90s pop and EDM.
The eclectic verse melodies of song two, “Mirror Mirror,” capture the atmosphere of a legendary Broadway hit, mixed with the bubbling quirks which could easily be compared to a New Age soundtrack. Yet Jessie reroutes the emerging vibe, casting her chorus against a lightly dance-infused backdrop woven thick with the dream themes of her title track. Stellar sonic imagery wraps the listener in moments of hypnotic bliss, while Jessie’s lyrics paint a scene all too familiar to her female fans.
“Trick Of The Light” works its way through vibrant moods of love and freedom, harboring an almost ‘80s essence within a soundscape which weds chart-topping pop themes with post-punk and dreamcore ambiences. Its chorus is completely infectious, marking an absolutely stand-out addition to Jessie’s EP.
Final track “Hypnotic” sees Jessie dive into a nostalgic and technicolour breed of pop; another song that could easily climb the charts for its explosive chorus, romantic relatability, and high-energy, synth-charged backdrop.
Once put together, an imaginative story of self-realization breaks through Jessie’s nebulous and artfully inspired sound, ready to hold listeners captive as deeply as her daring moodscapes. We’re instant fans of this EP, leaving us with one easy, final verdict for Sleepwalking: Highly Recommended.
