Johanna Kuvaja – Wanna Make Love To You – Single Review

Adult-pop songstress Johanna Kuvaja may be based in Finland, but her music has the shine and appeal of an LA artist. A trained music teacher with a five-octave vocal range, Kuvaja is taking the Finnish pop world by storm, receiving a wide number of accolades nationwide for her first few releases – her 2019 single Shower saw her compared to Katy Perry and Kylie Minogue.

Her latest release might see comparisons more akin to Mariah Carey or Christina Aguilera – Wanna Make Love To You radiates both flirtatiousness and ardent sensuality at every measure, carried by a perfectly digestible, fresh-but-familiar pop sound. Produced by Sefi Carmel (David Bowie, Phil Collins, Bruno Mars, Michael Buble), the effort that was taken in this track to perfectly walk the line between a serious musical composition and a fun and sexy modern pop track is both clear and brilliantly executed.

Wanna Make Love To You opens with an R&B-esque rhythm and ethereal backing vocals – it’s quintessential 2000’s-era pop at its peak. Kuvaja’s voice takes over shortly, a warm and inviting tone in her vocals that serves to further the intimate story being told in this track (but pay attention at 2:40 for a taste of Kuvaja’s out-of-this-world vocal range). It’s perfectly complemented by the synths and heavy bass that guide this track’s instrumentation. Top this all off with an insanely catchy chorus – the kind you’ll be singing hours after the track has ended – and this is a recipe for a total hit.

The passion in this track is visible in every aspect. It’s clear that the music was composed thoughtfully and with great attention to detail, but the songwriting and the message within the track reveal this on other levels as well. “Billions of people have had sex. I don’t know how many have actually made love?” Kuvaja says of the track. “Making love is an art, created by two people with deep feelings for one another. It’s a giving behavior with commitment and care.” And her belief is on full display in this single, and perhaps even more so in the music video. Together with Calvin Klein model Dani Rivero, the pair look quite a bit like a work of art themselves.

Wanna Make Love To You is the kind of universal contemporary pop track that will resonate with fans of the genre internationally. Sexy, smooth, inviting, and captivating – it’s everything you could ask for in a single of this genre. Surrounding herself with the most talented team and striving to create music that is uniquely her own, we fully expect to see a lot more top-tier music like this from Johanna Kuvaja in the future. With music of this caliber, the sky is truly the limit.
