Experiencing a bit of early success in his junior high school band, The Illusions, ultimately, it would be the loss of his father at age 18 which would inspire Los Angeles, California-based singer-songwriter-guitarist, Kaz Bielinski, toward his musical vocation.
After multiple careers in transportation and IT, and currently backed-up by Tim Pierce (electric guitars), Matt Laug (drums), Lance Morrison (bass), Zac Rae (keys), and Eric Berdon (acoustic guitars, backing vocals, programming), Bielinski has recently released his latest solo album, KAZ.
HERE’S WHAT WE DUG MOST…
The album opens with, Believe In Love, which has a late 70’s/early 80’s pop-rock sensibility reminiscent of The Cars 1978 hit, My Best Friend’s Girl.
Really dig Forever Love’s ambient tones and percussive sounds during the break from 1:45-2:00.
Dedicated to the memory of his father, The Rainbow, offered Kaz a way to deal with the grief of losing a parent at such a young age. Now, years later, this gentle piano-driven melody is given to sound…
“There’s an end to the dark night
As you drift through the dawn
Though our dreams end there
“Their hope lingers on…”
OUR FAVORITE TRACK…
Love Situation is rich with classy, loungy jazz, complete with an all too rare sax solo at the 3:15 mark. It’s sort of like David Bowie singing with Barry Manilow’s band.
With just a bit of pop-country influence, You’ll Believe, offers an inspiring composition with its dynamic and cathartic melody progression from verse to chorus.
The college rock era of the mid 90’s comes to mind as Kaz ends the album on a loud, proud, and bright note with, I’m On The Road, a climatic track which anthemically declares: love is paramount.
IN CONCLUSION…
Heartfelt. Warm. Sincere. Kaz Bielinski’s debut solo album, KAZ, has been a longtime in the making. While, indeed, multiple genre influences ride throughout the 7-track project, at its core we find the groovy synth, sax, and vocal arrangements of the 80’s, time and time again. Fans of the once dubbed “soft-rock” and “easy-listening” will appreciate these songs.
WHOSE LOVECHILD…?
An array of decades-spanning influences from the 70’s through the early millennium. While you listen, you just may hear, Bowie, The Cars, Huey Lewis, Leonard Cohen, Jack Johnson, and more…
