The Tijuana, Mexico-native, singer-songwriter, Joaquin Bernal, began his musical voyage at age three with violin lessons which eventually morphed into taking on the piano. This was all it took.
Now, just a few years removed from college, having assumed the moniker, Labán (the Hebrew word for the color white—a symbol of peace for the young artist), Bernal is preparing to release his debut album, Todos Somos Dueños de Aquí.
Four gorgeously simplistic smokey R&B-style singles have already been released in preparation for the album’s launch, including: Dueños de Aquí (2018), Quién da Más (2019), Para Ti (2019), and of course, his latest, the subtly seductive, Acércate (Come Closer), which features a collaboration with Denver based tenor saxophonist, Jeff Miguel.
“The principle of respect for human life is part of the album’s concept and a central idea. Therefore, each of the songs is associated with a vital part of the human body. The function of each part is related to the song’s intention.”
Oozing with calm desperation, this smooth and smokey jazz-lounge track has a quality which beckons the listener closer. The tragic tale of forbidden and treacherous love is rolled in the gold of that silky-sax, making the heartbreak more than worth the ride…
“Come closer, come closer,
When you have no commitments
Come closer
And let’s hope
That life lets us keep our love
Until the end…”
Please take this advice: If you dig Acércate, you absolutely must check out Labán’s three previous singles, where his silky, bluesy style presents itself in an expansive light. We look forward to the album, to say the least.
