LAILIEN – ‘Lail’ >> Arabic >> ‘Night’, Phonemically ‘Ail’ + ‘Alien’ >> Semantically, “The Ailing Night Alien” i.e. The Soul
Being classically trained in piano since the age of five only fueled composer, producer and director, Lailien’s (a.k.a., Brad Shubat) zest and passion for the electronic musical arts.
With his work featured on programs such as Sirius XM The Verge’s IndieCan radio program, and BBC Radio’s Stuart Maconie’s Freak Zone, Shubat’s pop-rock-jazzy style has resulted in tracks like Heaven, Blue Love, and his most recent number, the funky rock-riff, Holiday.
“…extra-dimensional sorcerer, body-suit of Brahman, rational empiricist, fool, gender fluid ghost through darkness, historical materialist, psychopomp and trickster.”
Using far more conventional pop-rock production than its two predecessors, Holiday, with all of its laser-like rock riffs and ironically simple lyrical philosophy come off enthusiastically sincere and infectiously positive. All in all, this track takes Lailien in a musical direction we can easily get behind…
“If you wanna be free
Baby, love what you’re doin’…”
WHOSE LOVECHILD…?
