Describing an easy-going history with his art as, “…fooling around with music on and off since 1997,” the Moss, Norway-based (by way of Bergen) electronic artist known as Malmo (a.k.a., Marius Malmo) creates music with the intention of producing unique sounds that will inspire his listeners and fans in whatever way they need in the moment.
“I try to make songs that I enjoy myself and also can give the listener a feeling of something different, and maybe dive into another alternate universe and de-couple from that ordinary life we live.”
Some of his previous work includes, Bladerunner Memories (Klaas Remix), The Light (of Roy) and The Myth. His latest single, the spacey and ambient, Memories Of Joi, (lyrics and vocals by Enlia) is another Blad Runner-inspired piece where we are guided to question not only what we see, but what we remember.
Ominous synth and vocal tones open the track with a bit of spoken word…
“Nobody knows whether you can take a memory with you or not…
Maybe it’s just a face, a melody, a favorite place…
“Nobody knows, but we’d like to think so…”
A gentle rhythm ensues as Enlia’s soft vocals, perfect for this genre, weave a dream-state tale…
“Am I just a shell deprived from humanity?
Without my memories, I am lost, I am lost
What is reality and what is left of me
Without my memories?
On truth and falsity lays the accuracy
Of my own theories?”
Waves of etheric synth tones rise and fall, filling every void in an otherwise minimalist composition which, in the end analysis, is simultaneously ultra-chill, and, ultra-engaging. Check out Memories Of Joi below.
