Tony® Award-nominated producer, and multi-genre vocalist Mia Moravis has just dropped her latest single, “Colour My World,” in collaboration with The New Bardots – a stunning, upbeat reimagination of Petula Clark’s 1966 original, first penned by Tony Hatch and Jackie Trent.
Now, this may be a Petula Clark cover, but Mia Moravis’ interpretation reminds this reviewer of ABBA or Alanis Morissette more than anything else: rich, vintage-styled vocals set against a pop-rock backdrop which feels as instantly nostalgic as anything you could imagine.
Fun fact: Mia’s Tony® nomination was for Ms. Morissette’s musical JAGGED LITTLE PILL on Broadway, and Mia has been an Alanis fan ever since the original five-time GRAMMY®-winning album was released, and the influence is still shining through, putting a vivid twist on Petula’s original.
Yet, a slight tinniness to the production sinks Mia’s cover single straight back into the 60s mood, as she pays full homage to Petula Clark’s hit by blessing us with a no-nonsense cover. Besides the ABBA/Alanis undertones, this cover ranks as close to the original as you can dare to get, with no alterations to the song structure to speak of. However, with Petula Clark’s smash hit “Downtown” outshining most of the pop icon’s later releases, Mia Moravis gracefully highlights this almost-forgotten bop for us modern listeners to excitedly re-discover, in a context that can snatch the attention of pop nerds from pretty much every generation.
Released on January 23rd, 2026, Mia Moravis’ Colour My World cover features Mia on lead and backing vocals, Johnnie Rago on drums, Dan Skye on bass, Wayne Olivieri on tambourine and Gar Francis on both six and twelve-string guitars and keys; all shaped by production work from Dan Skye and Gar Francis.
The end result is tight, solid, and an absolute blast from the past, ready to enchant and throw listeners back to the earliest years of chart-topping pop.
