Chicago-based hip-hop artist Noorani Pirani, better known as Noor, is all about breaking barriers. A difficult childhood motivated him to pursue bigger and better things for himself from a young age, and he quickly learned that music was to be that vessel to greatness for him. Quickly success was realized, and in 2016 at the age of 18, Noor was invited to perform at the World Trade Center in Dubai. Shortly thereafter he worked briefly with the label Tympanum Chapel Records, but has since decided to pursue the development of his own sound and style on an independent path. His most recent release reflects his skill and growth as an artist – This My Life is an excellently executed modern rap track that works on every level.
“As a Muslim artist, I want to break the stigma of Islam while advancing hip-hop in order to inspire the minds of people around the world to pursue their passions no matter what obstacles lies ahead of them.” – Noor
Instead of relying too heavily on excessive grandeur or profanity, This My Life feels incredibly down to earth for its genre. Rife with clever word choice and well-composed verses melded with an endlessly catchy (and relatable) hook, this feels like rap for the people. It’s not too flashy or obscene, no – this is just well-written, well-executed hip hop music that will resonate with the vast majority of those who can get their hands on it – and based on the quality of this piece of music, we wouldn’t be surprised if that’s a large number.
Noor has a great grittiness to his voice that helps to sell the whole package. It puts some weight and soul into his lyrics. The contribution from Marko Stat$ is a more than welcome addition, with his slightly slower and more even-paced delivery serving as a solid balance to Noor’s more rapid-fire style. Top it all off with some quality production – adding depth and dynamics to the track without taking away from the vocals – and it’s clear that Noor is well on his way to carving out his unique but wholly successful sound.
Noor says that as a Muslim artist, one of his goals is to break down the barriers that he has faced and encouraged others to do the same. With the quality and skill that can be seen on This My Life, we have a feeling that Noor will be shattering expectations and letting nothing hold him back from success for years to come.
