Massachusetts-based singer-songwriter Scott Alan Savoy has just dropped his eighth studio album, Pieces, and it’s got us instantly obsessed. With a lifelong love for big band, country, classic rock and pop, Scott Alan Savoy threads the crowning themes of ‘90s and ‘00s masterworks together, crafting a radio-friendly album that cleanses, inspires and leads you back to better moods, places and possibilities; tackling introspection without flaking beneath what’s lost.
Track one, “Here We Go Again” explodes with an aesthetic merging emo/indie rock, 90s pop and comforting, bright-skied country moods. However, the real magic is unveiled when Scott’s vocals turn out to be an absolutely uncanny match to Robbie Williams’ golden era (think those turn-of-the-millennium hits such as “Strong” and “Rock DJ”). This sound-alike is enough to snatch attention from the very first listen, but takes a brand new turn once we find out that it isn’t just a gimmick. Pieces collects some truly authentic, well-crafted tracks which hide hints of deep nostalgia in each melody and soundscape; songs which capture that unstoppable feeling which made Robbie Williams a solo star, yet tailored to Scott’s unique pattern in a true, heart-led expression of his own.
That’s enough comparison for now, because Pieces is a world away from one’s expectations; a fresh reimagination where rock, pop and country tangle themselves into new designs, without the chaos and confusion you’d expect from such experimentalism. Each track rings out like a Top 10 hit – “Something Eighty Proof” being a stellar example – as Scott Alan Savoy steps through sentimental ballads and sing-along choruses, heartbreak, hope, and bittersweet reflection.
If you have a spare sunny afternoon that needs soundtracking, or a bonfire on a crisp autumn night watching the clouds lapse the stars above, Pieces is the record for you. These are songs to create memories with, recharge your spirit, fill bleak silences with colour, and refresh your darkest moments with value, enlightenment and the solace of flashback sounds. Our final verdict? Highly Recommended.
