Pennsylvanian rockstar Scott McDonald has been torching the trail to his upcoming studio album See It Through, set for release on August 19th via Bongo Boy Records. We’ve just got our hands on Can’t Get The Better Of Me, the record’s second teaser single, and we can’t get enough of its thrilling energy. Read our review below, and don’t forget to check out Scott’s initial single, Wave, which hit music streaming services in June.
Scott’s biography details his “anthemic songs, exemplifying modern rock’s evolving spirit,” and we couldn’t agree more. Can’t Get The Better Of Me fuses the sub-genres of the dark side, carving a fresh path where hard rock meets heavy metal; Scott’s vocal delivery and lyrics balancing subtle Metallica influences with J-Rock vibes (perhaps accidentally, yet it absolutely works), amping up the firepower of this high energy hit.
Instantly nostalgic flavours pair with forward-thinking riffs and headbang-worthy grooves. White hot guitars interweave industrial elements, powered by the relentless inner drive pinning down its title: a raw motivation to conquer and thrive, capturing the fearlessness of rock in all its primal force. Can’t Get The Better Of Me is a bright feeling shattering the gloom, smothering hopelessness in an avalanche of strength and searing sound; guitar solos like dissection blades carving off the dead cells to let a monstrous new being emerge, phoenix-like and unforgettable. Our verdict: Recommended.
