Japanese solo artist Shogun is releasing music in the hip-hop space. He has several tracks currently available, but today we’re taking a closer look at a single titled Japanese Samurai.
Shogun takes a minimalistic approach to the production on Japanese Samurai. A simple, bass-forward piano melody provides the main melodic instrumentation for the track, allowing the varying percussion textures to be highlighted before the entrance of the vocals.
Shogun’s rap is fast, intense, and cutting – and the rapid pace is rhythmic and addictive. While the track only contains one verse, it demonstrates that Shogun has both skill and a keen understanding of his chosen genre – and it certainly argues that he could showcase these skills even further in future lengthier releases. Regardless, the track at hand has great energy and flow, and stylistic choices that highlight his abilities and style well.
If you enjoy discovering up-and-coming hip-hop artists, Japanese Samurai will most definitely pique your interest. For more music from Shogun, you can visit his catalog on BandLab and stream Japanese Samurai as well as his additional releases.
