Based in LA, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Steven Wolfe, and vocalist Myla Snow, are the founding members—and the heart and soul—of the politically conscious, mission driven, country-rock duo known as, Soles of Passion.
As former mortgage and real estate professionals, Steven and Myla were front seat witnesses to the financial crisis of 2008, and the millions of people who lost their homes.
“It’s progressive country with meaning.”
—Steven & Myla, Soles of Passion
Now, as artists, they’ve set their sights to helping their fellow citizens in need through their nonprofit organization, the Freedom Assistance Foundation (FAF). They invite their fans to visit the FAF on their website to learn how to help raise awareness through the music, and raise money to help foreclosure victims, and what they call “the new homeless.”
“We are all surrounded by corruption, looking for solutions. We stand for freedom. We combine our music with a passion for helping Americans. We support victims of foreclosure, our veterans, and the fight for less taxation.”
—Steven & Myla, Soles of Passion
Following up 2016’S Bump Me Up, the duo has been hard at work filling in the pieces of their live band, and have recently released the four-track EP, Land Of The Big Blue Sky.
Here’s what we dug most…
Our Favorite Track:
Vocally reminiscent of one Skye Edwards, and incorporating the influences of pop, progressive rock, and 80’s synth rock into the album opener, Turn It All Around, I was admittedly caught off guard—and most pleasantly surprised by this catchy, electronically-rooted, Garbage-esque number.
Utopian themed, Land Of The Big Blue Sun, creates a fun, blues-based landscape of peace and harmony. This music is absolutely harmless and on point with Soles’ mission.
With Snow’s blissfully, ambient vocals, and the track’s overall smooth mix and production, the sonically delightful, It’s So You, sounds like 90’s era B-52’s.
Concluding with, I’m Beggin’ You Now, a touch of fiddle unites with—once again—Snow’s charming vocal timbre to create a light and airy track which seems to happily defy its lyrical tale of tragic love…
“So long, I’ve waited so long
I’m beggin’ you now, to come back home to me
I’m beggin’ you now, to give me back what I need
I’m beggin’ you now…”
With distinct country, blues, and rock overtones, Land Of The Big Blue Sun is more of a progressive crossover album than anything else; which I would proudly offer has no absolute or conventional genre. The music was written, recorded, mixed and produced with a bright and appealing quality that is compelling and inspiring. Snow’s vocals are for real, and belong in the music world, carrying the project completely, creating its progressive identity by the sheer sound of her voice. All in all, this music is unique, wholesome, and worth your time.
Whose lovechild…?
