Colorado-based alt-rock / metal band Space Tequila is kicking off the new year with their brand new, eight-track album, Sarcastic Psychosis – a record as absurd and addictive as its title suggests, with a thick air of ‘00s metal supercharging its dingy, punk-infused aesthetic.
This band boldly admits of their music, “It’s not supposed to sound squeaky clean, pretty, and perfect. There is no perfect unless you’re Mr. Perfect,” – and we couldn’t agree more. Why write another record that sounds just like everyone else’s latest hit, when instead, you could be turning the rock scene on its head with ridiculously epic and sometimes irrational soundscapes never dared before?
Space Tequila stays true to their game, each track melding gritty grunge tones with abrasive heavy metal riffs, topped with near-spoken word chants and charging basslines to craft a live band vibe that’s simply unstoppable.
Song sections collide like car crashes you can’t bear to look away from; ever-exciting, though, at times, it feels like hearing musical blasphemy take wing. It’s raw, real, and instantly infectious; a whirlwind of dirty noise that keeps you hooked from the start and hardly lets up for a moment. Within it all, true artistry prevails as the band experiments with off-beat timings, presenting a massive middle finger to ‘The Man’. Jack Black would be proud of this one.
Listening to Sarcastic Psychosis is like stumbling into a bar to find the most mind-blowing underground band, or pulling out an old tape cassette from a dead man’s dumpster, only to discover the best, long-lost record you’ve ever heard. We write this with absolute love for Space Tequila’s musical obscenities and refreshing abstractions, as they bring the punk / rock / metal scene back to the place it all began: some dim-lit backroom or basement, sequestered from society for being far too wild for the general population to handle. But if you’re a lover of musical chaos, mind-melting innovation, and albums which dare to shatter the mould of what’s acceptable, Sarcastic Psychosis is a record you NEED to hear.
This is a band that truly doesn’t give a f***, but that’s exactly what places them in the top leagues: not attempting to please anyone, likely not even themselves, but creating music out of vivid passion which emanates through each and every track. In a world of AI music, copy-paste singers, and mind-numbing structure, Space Tequila rips out their still-beating heart for all to see and adore. It’s as far away from bot music as you can get, putting the ‘dead internet’ theory to rest at last. And we’re 100% here for it.
