SoCal-based Orange County-native singer-songwriter, Starla Starshine (a.k.a., Megan Bennett), wrote her first song for the late great John Lennon (her first muse & love) when she was just thirteen. Just two years later, still just fifteen, she was doing good things in her first rock band, Rebel Heart.
“…trippy, modern, indie, dancey-trancey…”
Moving on to become a solo act was not just a matter of musical principal or simple artistic expression for that matter. For Starshine, it was essential in order to find her very own, unique sound, her own voice, her own path.
In advance of her forthcoming full-length, debut album, Red Lagoon, Starla has released the dark and mystical, and ever-so-slightly psychedelic 3-track EP, also titled, Red Lagoon. It’s lead-off single by the same name is immediately reminiscent of Trent Reznor’s post-industrial-rock/experimental trio, How To Destroy Angels.
“The listener must be prepared to be mesmerized, hypnotized, seduced, sonically, lyrically, body and soul, every which way.”
Layers of distorted synth tones join a down-tempo groove, ambient guitar notes, and Bennett’s legit, smokey vocal presence to create the sonic equivalent of a dream; something more than a song—a musical atmosphere…
“In a world without a cure
I will be your pill…”
