Award-winning Floridian composer Terry Lee Nichols released his latest album last month — “Love Is…” — a balmy eleven-track exploration of the many forms and flavours of love. Inspired by the deathless Gandhi quote, “Where there is love, there is life,” Terry Nichols’ LP traces love’s strength and sentiment through romantic, familial and platonic relationships; giving voice to the one sensation and common thread binding life’s best experiences together.
“Love Is…” opens with a moving, piano-laced rendition of the ultimate love song: “Moon River,” Rebekah Eden’s operatic vocals a shining light which wander through Terry’s vast expanse of Debussy-inspired ambience; lush trails of notes waterfalling through velvet midnight atmospheres.
Celestial ambience, soft as lullabies and glistening with a Disney-like sense of deep tranquility underlies each refreshing piece. Serene and meditative New Age essences form a lazy Sunday soundtrack, instantly spiritual and uplifting whilst letting you sink into a golden sense of comfort. “Moon River”’s motifs re-emerge through the LP’s twists and turns, Terry picking up the loose ends of his previous tracks and tapestrying them into sparkling, new and conceptual creations.
Terry carves a rare path where easy-listening meets true-hearted and inspired composition, Spanish guitar riffs interlace cinematic string sections, jazz chords reawaken tried-and-tested progressions, suspense builds in unexpected places only to open up like sighting a daisy meadow past the tangle of dense forest branches.
This is the sort of record which will plush out your morning routine with ceaseless good vibes and cleanse your soul with a glistening energy, traversing the heights and depths of Love as it commands us and our living world. Terry’s immersive, genre-defying music has been known to invite listeners into “rich, emotive soundscapes shaped by a lifetime of passion, innovation and storytelling,” and this latest release won’t let fans down for a moment. Pure, whimsical and experimental music traced out with an angelic sense of clarity and calm. What’s not to love? Our verdict: Recommended.
