We’ve had the pleasure of watching Phoenix band, TWOFEW, develop their brand of alt-rock for quite a while now. They’re are a bit of a family affair; with Michael and Danielle Lazar (husband and wife), and brother, David Lazar , making up the core of the group. Their last release that we looked at was Fightin’ For, a single that we loved for its passion and intensity, and poetic detailing of the ups and downs experienced in a relationship.
TWOFEW return with their latest single, Feel, and it certainly doesn’t fail to deliver on the vigor and emotion that we have come to associate with their music. It embodies the human need for connection and the sense of security that a loving relationship can provide. Michael Lazar’s powerful vocal performance reaches right out and offers protection… “Can’t you see that I’m standing very near / Baby let me come and take you away from here”. The piano picks out an uplifting chord progression while the vocal lines are answered by some expressive, country guitar licks. The tempo is downbeat; it’s a slow-burner, but this gives the track a lot of space and a truly anthemic presence. The melody is strong throughout and the simplicity of the chorus gives the song major sing-along vibes. A face-melting guitar shred steals the show at the end, before one final, emphatic, chorus.
Feel will definitely whet the appetite of TWOFEW fans out there. The band’s debut album is due for release in early 2023 and will no doubt boast more exceptional songwriting like this.
