“…endearing quality that comes through, musically, lyrically, and in its production. …delightfully minimalist, and generally good for your health.”
Back in July of last year, these were the words we used to describe Austin, Texas-based singer/songwriter and electro-musician, Mark DiLillo’s debut EP, The Great Exchange, under his moniker, Welsh Avenue.
With many years of classical piano training under his belt, the former biology major (and one-time aspiring vet) felt the calling of music some time ago—a calling which has not faded.
Following up last years single, Holy Ghost, is this years, Disco Moon, a plush soundscape of melody which DiLillo himself describes as “…a cross between alternative, electronic, experimental and nu-wave music”, that is being called space-pop.
“Oh I am not transformed by anything
Except for the love of the stars and the sky and people like you and me
And no, this ain’t a rainbow road
This is a dance floor that you can call home …”
—Welsh Avenue, Disco Moon
DiLillo’s intention of creating sonic respite with his music is well intact with this latest bit of Ableton-driven magic. Be sure to don your headphones in order to fully enjoy the etheric and celestial sounds which open the track, panning back-and-forth with crisscrossing, ambient tones; eventually breaking out into a spacey, rhythmic disco-jam with a simple message of enjoying the ride and enjoying the music.
