Getting started by writing poetry, although Omaha, Nebraska native R&B and hip-hop artist, BODA (a.k.a., Joey Boda), has only been making music for six years, you might never have guessed it when taking into consideration his rapidly growing anthology of nearly 40 smoothly unique tracks on SoundCloud.
Some of this work includes 2018’s 23 Winters, as well as 2019’s Demons, and a plethora of singles.
His latest single, California, represents the ongoing development and evolution of Boda’s ultra smooth, contemporary method, where he can switch in the blink of an eye from singing to rapping—flow to hook—with charisma and style.
California is instantly an anthem for the ironic and sultry darkness of modern-day So-Cal life, where love is only a theory, and satisfying one’s most basic instincts is paramount. The flow is typical Boda-smooth. The production is tight and simple, letting the lyrical delivery carry the weight while still adding ambient melody.
Moral of the story: like many of this guy’s tracks, it’s tight and repeat-worthy. Check out the video for California below.
