We’ve been really enjoying following along with this season of the Bongo Boy Rock n Roll TV Series. Currently in season ten, this production (created by Bongo Boy Records) exists solely to showcase the music videos of some of the world’s best indie artists. In Episode 5, we’ve got seven more top-tier music videos to enjoy, including everything from hard rock to hip hop.
Opening this episode is The Dead Daisies and their track Holy Ground (Shake The Memory). Their driving hard rock sound, melodic-focused writing, and artistic video production is a strong opener. This is followed by Obas & Rick Ross‘ track Hug The Streets Remix which plunges us headfirst into indie hip-hop. This is a quintessential modern rap track, with a classic feel, minimalistic production, and is chock full of uplifting and unifying messages in its verses.
Baker Grace‘s track Be Ok is a standout in this episode. An ethereal pop sound, this elegant music video is the perfect complement to this track’s delicate production. The song has a great arc, gentle but intentioned, and features some notable lyric writing: “no one sees the scars on a pretty face“.
Wave by Stizee is next, moving us back in a hip hop direction. This track has a great rhythm that highlights the uniqueness of rapper Stizee’s vocal tone, and is well complemented by a catchy, pop-tinged hook and a video with a “high-end photoshoot” feel. This blends nicely into the next track – Blue Gene by ADIV. This hip-hop track is a unique combination of fresh and retro. It has an old school beat blended with a distinctly modern vocal, and the video features visions of ’70s fashion blended with modern runway styles.
Frank Hugo’s Count It Up is hard-hitting from every angle, from the cold hard cash that’s front and center to Hugo’s rapid-fire flow and uncompromising lyrics. From the powerful bassline to the gorgeous women and stunning jewelry, this is a cinematic experience from every angle. Finally, closing this month’s episode is Trouble in the Streets by Chasing Whatever. A compelling combo of artistic imagery, an infectious hook, and cutting rap verses, this is a unique and utterly captivating track that concludes this episode on a strong note.
By now, the Bongo Boy Rock n Roll TV Series should be on the radar of all indie musicians and indie fans alike. This program does an exquisite job of showcasing these indie music videos and bringing them together into cohesive and entertaining episodes month after month. Episode 5 is no exception – this is a great production providing serious value to indie artists worldwide.
