Well, it’s a little special, and a little more focused: it celebrates the award-winning songs/videos of Australian duo STUDEO. Yep, BBRnRTV’s ninth episode is all about this attention-grabbing, song-crafting duo and the many catchy songs you listened to, and listened to again, on 97% of Bongo Boy Records’ music video compilations. The celebration begins with “In the Nick of Time.” Having won five distinct video awards, “In the Nick of Time” is a mid-tempo rocker filled with images of evolving robotics and perhaps far too clever algorithms. With CG scenery and complex control decks, “In the Nick of Time” promotes human uniqueness at a time when programs seek to emulate it, monetize it, and ultimately, nullify its individualizing value.
“You’re Safe With Me,” with its echoing, chiming keys, features images of astronauts, perhaps a couple, traversing Earth-like but probably alien fields and forestry. Christine Stork’s vocal shines here, her characteristic deep vibrato championing love’s immeasurable connective tissue across vast cosmic distances.
“Magic Moment” is a serious visual change. Here, a presumed wielder of nature magic/sorceress/witch contemplates the universe to a tune reminiscent of The Mamas & the Papas.
PS – Images of astronauts do return in perhaps a hallucination caused by partaking in certain natural growths.
“When It’s Over” has been featured on several Bongo Boy compilations, and we love it more each time it plays. With three stoic witches and perhaps a gentler princess o’ the woods, “When It’s Over” sounds like something Pat Benetar roared in the 1980s. Good stuff.
“Running Out of Time,” a playful, trotting rocker, features images of knights, fleeing maidens, ominous alchemy, questionable sorcery, medieval architecture, and perhaps an arranged marriage successfully avoided.
And rounding out this episode of Bongo Boy Rock n’ Roll TV, STUDEO presents this last award-winning video, “Find Your Destiny.” And with crystalline piano, two nature-weathered doors open into a presumed magical, forested realm. A little girl o’ the forest embraces an owl, embraces nature, as innocence would allow nothing less. “Find Your Destiny,” in a manner, may be about finding your truest self – your first self – before successfully embracing the future.
But is it good?
Christine and Jeremy Stork (aka, STUDEO. DUH!) are definitely worth celebrating. With memorable hooks, catchy melodies, and now, equally memorable visual moments, STUDEO is a global music phenomenon that entrances both aurally and visually. They make music magic, and all fellow music invokers, channelers, chanters and casters should admire – and hope to match – their infectious spellcraft. Recommended.
