The much-anticipated return of Bongo Boy Record‘s indie music video TV series is finally upon us as we kick off 2022! We’re ringing in the new year with Season 11 Episode 1 of Bongo Boy TV‘s long-standing showcase, aptly titled New Start of Excitement. Featuring the show’s signature blend of rising talent from a myriad of genres, this season’s opener sets expectations high for following episodes this season.
We kick off Season 11 with the pop-rock earworm Cannot Tell A Lie by Harper Starling. This sultry, devil-may-care number features an endlessly catchy melody and details a captivating game of kiss and tell. This is followed by On My Own by Kari Wahlgren and featuring Chloë Agnew. This is a raw, heartfelt ballad that feels like Celine Dion meets Adele; Wahlgren’s voice is all smoke and power, and the cello is a perfect deep and warm compliment.
High School Can’t Last Forever by Rich Chambers is one part modern rock and one part nostalgia, blending classic themes of coming of age with a contemporary sound and a fun, electric energy. Leaning in an alt-rock direction is Other World by Steve J. Allen. A darker, more ominous track full of haunting images and touches of surrealism, this song is a poetic blend of existential fear and truly out-of-the-box artistry set over a delicate acoustic guitar backdrop – a stand-out on this collection.
Travel In Time is rooted in the pop punk space with Quiet Like A Thief, an unexpected genre addition but a well-blended inclusion. With melodic tendencies reminiscent of a modernized Blink-182, this is a collection of well-thought-out riffs, crystal clear vocals, and a performance full of chemistry from the band – true rarities in this space. Udo Hoelscher‘s Room 207 is perhaps the polar opposite of the preceding track, slowing things down with an emotive piano ballad that grows in intensity as it progresses. Hoelscher’s voice is soulful and textured, bringing warmth and authenticity into his story of a relationship forged in a hotel room.
