UK-based singer-songwriter Chris Lewington is the former front man for both Bicycle Thieves and The Silence. A self-directed writer and producer, his sound encompasses an array of both classic and modern songwriting elements. His recent single The Bridge at Midnight is a great introduction to his throwback sound.
The Bridge at Midnight is retro acoustic rock at its finest. The strummy acoustic guitars meld nicely with light but driving percussion and thumping bass, and the keyboard solo that starts at 2:53 adds an element of soul and dissonance. At the center of it all is Lewington’s voice which has a distinct but timeless sound, imparting emotion and intensity into every measure.
Lewington’s songwriting prowess is not to be overlooked. The composition is energetic and dynamic, and the lyrics offer poetic insight into the seemingly dystopian subject matter at hand. Combined with a digestible but eclectic melody, and this track has a dark, electric feel to it that makes for a captivating listening experience.
Those who can appreciate a contemporary sound melding with familiar elements of the ’60s and ’70s will love The Bridge at Midnight. It’s clear that Chris Lewington‘s tenure in the industry has allowed him to develop some fantastic skill across the board, and this single stands as a rock solid example of this.
