San Antonio-based singer-songwriter David Mieth has been creating original music since the young age of twelve. A vocalist and guitarist, Mieth has referred to his musical work as both “a source of refuge in the hard times and a source of great joy in the good times.” A taste of the former is perhaps on display on the second track of his aptly titled 2 Song EP. The single Alone Again Blues is a soulful and heartfelt that speaks to Mieth’s well-established skills.
A clear beacon of a sole blues guitar introduces us to Alone Again Blues, settling into a comfortable and recognizable shuffle quickly thereafter. This track is no doubt steeped in traditional blues elements, which gives it an air of familiarity as we become acquainted with Mieth’s take on the genre. His voice is clear and bright, perhaps the one true diversion from a gritty, classic blues sound one might expect – but it carries the somber nature of the track beautifully. The single is brimming with emotion and the excellently executed guitar riffs serve as the instrumental element that ties it all together.
The songwriting on display in this track fits right in line with the rest of its components. The lyrics are straightforward and digestible, but they tell a full and complete story that leaves little room for ambiguity:
“Got those alone again blues since you up and left me
It’s me without you, it’s alone again
That’s news I can’t use, and it sure did upset me
When you said we were through, it’s alone again”
Fans of a conventional blues sound will no doubt enjoy the work of David Mieth on Alone Again Blues. Stream this heartbreaker of a track (or the other blues-rock number Woulda, Shoulda, Coulda that makes up the other half of the 2 Song EP) for yourself on Bandcamp below.
