Solo artist Deadphonecalls (AKA Max Cossu) is originally from Italy, but has been based in Prague since 2008. He has focused his attention on his solo project since 2014, releasing his first album Calls To The Dead Phone that same year. His most recent release is a vibrant, powerful single titled Revolution Day.
Cutting guitar riffs and driving rhythms are at the center of this firey alt-rock track. It captures a sense of both intense energy and urgency in its arrangement, with a heavy-handed bassline and a deep, gritty vocal often appearing as the highlight. The group vocals are a nice touch, feeling like a rebel yell as Deadphonecalls takes the center stage of the revolution in question.
In this genre, strong lyricism is often overlooked, but that is not the case in this track. The lyrics here are both evocative and poetic, full of unique and intentional word choice that paints a vibrant picture:
“All the pictures of my generation
are angels undone
Within a frame
The time has come to get the Reign“
This is a strong showing of skill from Deadphonecalls. Fans of heavy, gripping alternative sounds with an appreciation for deeper lyrics will feel right at home on Revolution Day. Stream this compelling, rebellious rock work for yourself below.
