His 23-year career began with piano lessons at 13, then high school choir, and playing guitar at church. Originally from Manila, Philippines, the now South River, New Jersey-based award-winning singer, BMI songwriter, and Grammy member, Dennis Sy, has always had music in his blood.
His accolades are many, and his craft has taken him from coast to coast—producing, singing, and being an overall positive force in the music community.
With over 30 original songs composed thus far, including 2011’s Pilipino Ako (single) and Colours (EP), 2012’s Coming Home (album), 2013’s Stronger Than Before (album), and 2016’s Shine On (single), the anthology continues with his latest piece, Can She Stay.
From fathers everywhere to daughters everywhere, this tender ballad gives voice to the part of all parents who proudly send their own out into the world despite the voice inside that wishes they could stay young, stay home.
Tastefully minimalist with keys, strings, and just a touch of sax and acoustic guitar, Sy’s vocals and writing ultimately carry the track…
“A little voice inside my head saying let her on her way
But my heart is asking if there’s a chance, can she stay?”
Steve Winwood meets Harry Connick Jr…
