Feel like you’ve been spending too much time on your phone lately? You’re not alone. Artist Jay Luke‘s most recent release Trapped in Your Cell highlights all the negative aspects of the digital world we live in.
A self-taught musician from a young age, Luke’s music offers insight into his inner thoughts and feelings. His work features himself on rhythm guitar and vocals, Michael “Duds” McDonald (lead guitar), Joe Loftus (bass, production), and Titus Zhell (drums).
A driving drumbeat beat, heavy, distorted guitars, and a couple of classic guitar solos define this track. Trapped in Your Cell has a great retro feel – it lands somewhere between classic rock and modern hard rock, and would be enjoyable to fans of either genre.
The lyrics are also a high point. Luke shows no mercy to our digital lives and compares the amount of time people spend staring at screens to being imprisoned. You can hear the emotion in his voice as he delivers the message. The strongest statement comes in the chorus:
“When your face is glued to a screen no emotion can ever truly be seen
Miscommunication through text
Swipe right swipe left who’s gonna be next?
Your attention span’s been shot to hell
And you don’t realize you’re trapped in your cell”
Keep an eye out for his upcoming release Alone In The Crowd due out later this year. In the meantime, for those who enjoy solid rock music with a powerful message, Trapped in Your Cell should surely hold you over until then.
