Crystalline ambience. Cascading harps. Plucked, reverb-drenched strings reflecting between the puffy spires of translucent cloud architecture. This is the space-building electronic music filling Harpejio, the latest five-song release from LightBody Sound (a moniker for composer, performer, mixer, and producer Kanude [with spiritual guidance from The Song Healer]).
This expressive, instrumental EP features five peaceful, digitally created movements that transport one to places somewhere between dream and delicate spiritual awareness. Not convinced? Then follow along as I recount the highlights of this aurally environmental journey.
The first track, “Harpejio 1,” is a chorus of harps; a granting of immaculate, incalculable space filled with heavenly plucking.
“Harpejio 3” rolls in with the tide (literally, because I’m pretty sure that’s water I’m hearing) with vibe-like, analog-sculpted synths, a more diligent structure, and then a warm, crackling pad that leads us to the song’s sparsely layered epilogue.
“Harpejio 4” is a bit more restrained with a deep bass note conversing with electronic droplets and unfurling, harp-like exclamations. It’s less busy than earlier offerings, and perhaps a dip into darkness.
“Harpejio 5” is a little more assertive – it growls while bouncing upon playful, chiming analog arpeggios. For me, this is the standout track; it’s hopeful science fiction where the landscape is equal parts nature and elegant, revolutionary robotics.
“Harpejio 6,” the finale, is a muffled churning – perhaps a spiraling down of the musical engine responsible for creating this very EP. And as it winds down/fades out, you can hear the waning sparks of its former glistening orchestrations.
So, is it good?
Harpejio creates an accessible, supportive musical environment, and I highly recommend taking the journey there yourself. So, yes – this is certainly good stuff.
