Voted runner-up as Best Musical Act in the 2018 Tucson Weekly—Best of Tucson, the four esteemed musical spirits known as, Miss Olivia & Interlopers, attribute the longevity of their sonic success to not only their obvious skill in the ways of organized sound, but also—and perhaps most importantly—to their deep love and respect for one another. The band is family.
“Our band loves each other. Hopefully, you will feel that way too when you come out to our shows, like family.”
—Miss Olivia Reardon
Currently based in Tucson, AZ, this rambunctious cover & originals band consists of Olivia Reardon (vocals), Mike Sydloski (guitar, vocals), David Hostetler (bass), and Daniel Thomas (drums, vocals). Together, the group is eagerly putting the finishing touches on their debut album, Little Stories. And, as luck would have it, we’ve been treated to one of its lead-off singles, the jazz-rock-soulful, Blacklisted.
“…we always joke that we are like a good mix-tape—the types of music may be from all sorts of styles and genres, but it all works well together.”
It took about two seconds of listening to Reardon’s powerhouse vocals to hear influences like Erykah Badu and Alicia Keys as jazz-bluesy electric licks collide with a fuzzed-up rock chorus creating a lively tale of young, feminine struggle…
“I know that they don’t want me
They don’t want me comin’ right here
But there ain’t a motherf#$@er
Payin’ any of my bills, no way…”
Assuming that Blacklisted is an indication of what’s to come from the album, we’re in for a treat. Stay tuned…
