Repeatedive is a three-piece indie rock band from Taipei, Taiwan—the humid, overcast capital of a subtropical island nation. Formed in May of 2016, the three rock-heads originally played a mix of originals and Nirvana covers at high school events. (And trust me, that Nirvana influence is still alive and well.)
Getting their name from the repetitive emotional roller-coaster experienced while going through two hiatuses in their short uncertain tenure together, the threesome currently consists of, Alan Yang (guitar, vocals), Larry Chen (bass) and Baron Jan (drums).
Their previous project, the SoundCloud exclusive demo EP, 7th Floor, spawned their latest single, the downright grungy, In My Heart, I Say Fuck This World, a nostalgically simple and basic, 90’s-style, 2-chord grunge-rock cut inspired by that infinite well of inspiration: lost love.
The track builds from a harmless electric intro—which sounds a bit like Jack Johnson’s Symbol In My Driveway—and crescendos gradually into an explosive conclusion by doing nothing more than adding distortion and playing louder. Brilliant. Look, this kind of simplicity is a refreshingly back-to-basics approach to the time-honored waling over lost love. I dig this song, and it instantly made our list of candidates for The Ark of Music’s top ten singles of 2018…
“The sky was fading like a man on life support
Your dreams are waiting for you to come and abort
In my heart, I wait for someone to appear
I can let you free
I can let you be
The one you dream
In the darkness of my living room there’s a light
The light was saying that close your eyes baby you’ll be fine
In my heart, I say fuck this world
Carry me away
Carry me away
Carry me away
In my heart I’m still living
In my heart I’m still breathing
I know I love you more than I love myself
I do admit I get carried away…”
WHOSE LOVECHILD…?
Marcy Playground meets Nirvana with a touch of 90’s-era Green Day…
