Singer, lyricist, composer, producer and mother, the Mumbai, India native, SuriLee, moved to the US when she was 18 to study accounting—where she would ultimately earn her masters degree from the University of Baltimore.
Trained at an early age in Hindustani classical music, friends and family always enjoyed her Bollywood performances as a child, fueling the creative fires of what was to come.
Fast-forward a few years, now located in Fremont, California, this young artist credits the experience of having children with her renewed sense of passion for the art of making music. That passion has resulted in SuriLee’s debut album, Wild Lily, for which the lead-off single is the silky, hypnotic, Don’t Know.
Fusing deep, dreamy, world-style synth melodies with a simple electro-rhythm and SuriLee’s classically-trained—yet crossover—vocals make this a unique and intriguing debut effort. Lyrically minimalist, the young artist’s search for identity is accessible and told with tasteful mystery…
“Unsure
This route
So dark
Bound to lost
Your Love
Your light
Your strength
My only hope…
Tell me who I am
Tell me who I am
Don’t know where I am
Don’t know who I am..”
Whose lovechild…?
Donna De Lory with a touch of Belinda Carlisle…
