Fans of religious music, rejoice. The expert curation team at Bongo Boy Records has recently put together the third installment of their Christian music compilation. Consecration Revival, Vol. III is a wholesome, spiritual journey through the music of some of the indie world’s most captivating religious artists.
The album has been dedicated to late artist Kate Magdalena, whose music is found across this album and serves as a beautiful reminder of the talent and grace her musicianship brought to many of Bongo Boy Records’ releases. The opening track of this album is perhaps the most notable in this regard. Her cover of Sinead O’Connor’s Take Me to Church is an uplifting, moving moment of sincerity and power.
While all of Kate’s music across this compilation is stunning, the collection of work from the other artists should not be overlooked. Take One Family by Ann M. Wolf for example. Her vocals are a warm and welcoming invitation into a gentle but expressive Christian ballad.
Not every track on this album is quintessential religious music. In J. Howard Duff’s Thank You Lord, we find a gritty, bluesy rock number with swagger and soul abounding. This is also the case with the soft indie rock track I Am Victorious by Dale Mitchel. While it does bear some resemblance to more traditional music in this genre, it’s set apart by its modern production and jazz-leaning piano riffs.
Most of the songs on this project are original, but the cover of Before I Take My Rest by Blind Lemon Pledge is another standout moment on this musical collection. This rendition blends Americana and classic folk influences for a haunting, twangy journey full of notable moments of musical technicality.
We also love Show God Spirit by Sheba The Mississippi Queen for its bright, sing-song energy, as well as We Worship The King of Kings by Bible Belt Blues for its acoustic-driven, raw, and simply sung praises.
You don’t need to follow any specific religion to appreciate the musical excellence found on Consecration Revival, Vol. III. But for those who do affiliate with Christianity, across this album are rich moments of spirituality and deep heavenly connections made through music. It should come as no surprise that the Bongo Boy Records team has their finger on the pulse of another up-and-coming genre, and both their knowledge and skill are a welcome gift to fans of indie-faith music.
