In 2008, sound healer, reiki master, clairvoyant, painter, headpiece designer, and singer-songwriter, Daniella White (a.k.a., YellaCatt), moved from Seattle to Los Angeles in order to further cultivate her eclectic plethora of artistic endeavors, particularly her music.
Influenced by blues, rock, electronica, and the more exotic music of India and Persia, YellaCatt and her production team have created the seriously captivating electro-multi-genre EP, The Wild One.
HERE’S WHAT WE DUG MOST…
Super Power Pussy, a psychedelically ambient melding of alt-R&B, electro-pop, and hip-hop merge to form something intriguingly bipolar and utterly mood-synced with today’s pop music scene. Some will say bold. Some will say offensive. Some will call it unnecessary. Others will call it the lit fuse to a musically-philosophical revolution—the ultimate and most primal claiming of feminine power. Essentially, this song uses 3:51 to explain to the ladies that it’s okay to use what you got to get what you need.
Digging the minimalist kick-clap-snare on, Wild Horse, another strong psych-R&B track. There’s an enticing hint of down-tempo in this ode to the male form. The fuzzed-out solo at 3:06 is icing.
What we have here, boys and girls, is an EP dedicated to pleasures of the flesh. This is confirmed immediately with track three, Dragoness…
“Her kiss is fire, make no mistake
Ride the snake…”
OUR FAVORITE TRACK… Layers of rolling, textured synth again unite with tastefully minimalist beat and bass line in the EP’s closer, Lightning Strikes, a charmingly hypnotic, and chaotically-calming youth anthem…
“Light it up, let the storms collide
If this is gonna blow
Let’s do it like there’s no tomorrow…”
IN CONCLUSION…
Melodically precise. An intense rhythmic experience. Energetically powerful pop music. Packs more punch in four tracks than most full albums can muster in ten. YellaCatt’s latest EP, The Wild One, fully lives up to its name. Obvious veteran production has collided with a rare voice and face, both matching each other’s skill and intention. It’s just a damn groovy EP.
WHOSE LOVECHILD…?
Mýa meets Tron…
