With a mission to, “…share and spread the Retrowave sound and culture with the world”, NRW Records (New Retro Wave) has done well by its artists, getting features on Netflix films as well as TV shows and major movies like, Death Note, Family Guy, and the latest Godzilla franchise.
On their current roster is the deep-electro sound of, Alex & Tokyo Rose. With previous projects like Akuma, and The Chase: Last Run, this dark and mysterious act has recently released Akuma II, another wildly hypnotic and dreamy ride into the delicious night where trip-hop meets dub.
The album’s lead-off single, Affliction, arrives complete with a tripped-out, fully animated video so potent that it comes with an epilepsy warning.
Wave upon wave of ambient synth meld with clap and snap to create something that’s both subtle and sinister—all at once. The whole thing feels like it belongs on the legendary soundtrack to 1997’s The Saint.
WHOSE LOVECHILD…?
Everything But The Girl meets Sneaker Pimps…
