I’m sure you all remember our rave review of Americana/folk artist Jeremy Parsons’ single Good Ole Days earlier this year (check it out here if you don’t). We’re thrilled to report that Parsons has released yet another stellar single that works as a beautiful counterweight to his last soulful storytelling, a track titled Things to Come.
“This is a song for the future and comes with the knowledge that we are in control of our own lives, and we should look forward to that, no matter how rough it gets.”
Everything we loved about the first song of Parsons’ we discovered is on display in Things to Come as well. A comfortable modern Americana style with that unique, singsong lilt that’s reminiscent of greats like Jason Isbell, Tyler Childers, or Ryan Adams.
But it’s the lyrical content where the two tracks diverge and Parsons gives us a candid look into his personal journey through life and the challenges that have confronted him along the way. A story colored by struggles with drugs and alcohol, it’s a vulnerable, honest expression, written in a way that will bring to mind your own personal obstacles while empathizing with those described. And it’s all delivered by Parsons’ husky yet inviting vocal that adds believability to the track – a feature that feels like a Parsons signature. He doesn’t have to belt for you to feel that he means what he’s saying.
But this is not a negative song, no – it’s about what happens after the obstacles are conquered. The first page of a new chapter, so to speak. The last two lines of the chorus state the song’s core message so succinctly:
“Time is a healer and life must go on,
So here’s to all the things to come.“
At the risk of sounding too cliché, this track leaves us looking forward to all of the things to come from Jeremy Parsons. With his warm, homey Americana style and tasteful, insightful lyrics, he continues to cement himself among The Ark’s favorite artists. This is the fourth single off an upcoming album releasing under the same name, so get your ears on Things To Come now, and get excited for more new music from Parsons in the near future – we sure are.
