We recently reviewed her single, Was, and called it a “…pleasingly-minimalist, synth-centric, electro-pop, post-breakup anthem.”
Now, the Atlanta, Georgia’s-based singer-songwriter, keyboardist, Katie Belle, has returned, and with summertime on the brain, she gives us her latest effort, Out Tonight, a catchy riff with absolute stop-and-notice appeal.
A tight guitar lick loops around a sweet down-tempo hip-hop-style beat, while Katie offers an honest accounting of the youthful blues which can only occur when one’s drive for freedom and independence collide with a nostalgic desire for love…
“I know I’m acting up lately, on my own s#*t boy I’m wavy
Spend all my cash ‘fore I make it, I never worry what he do
He got those green eyes I see through, spend all my love ‘fore he take it…
All this bad blood in my veins
Get it out tonight, get it out tonight
Feels so good to be this way
Get it out tonight, get it out Tonight…”
The track’s melody, mood and simplicity all unite to result in 2:49-worth of pure Summer essence. That said, spoiler alert, this track has just become a candidate for our 2019 Top Ten Singles list. It’s simple, clever, climactic and fun. It’s her best work yet, and you should check it out below…
